Our vineyard of approximately 9 hectares is immersed in the heart of the Belluno Dolomites, more precisely in the area including several municipalities called Valbelluna, in a well-exposed plateau at approximately 650 m above sea level. The Dolomites have always been considered the most beautiful mountains in the world. They are an extraordinary fossil archipelago that creates a picturesque setting and, thanks to its intrinsic beauty and exceptional environmental and geographical characteristics, officially became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.

Furthermore, at an earlier time, in 1996, the Typical Geographical Indication Vineyards of the Dolomites (or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI in German) was established, an interregional denomination attributed to white, red and rosé wines produced in the territories of the Provinces of Trento, Bolzano and Belluno, peculiar geographical areas which, due to the climate and conformation of the soils, are extremely suitable for winegrowing focused on the search for the highest quality. The valley is crossed entirely by the Piave river and is rich in all the waterways that flow into it.

The proximity to the mountains guarantees a middle ground between the cool subcontinental climate, which approaches mountainous, depending on the altitude. The average annual rainfall is around 1000 mm with a seasonal Mediterranean-like character: concentrated in autumn and spring, although the proximity of the Alps guarantees excellent periodic water supplies throughout the summer. The soil is of medium texture, with the presence of calcareous detritus typical of mountain areas; some strips reveal sandstone, and there are areas in which marl, i.e. old clays, emerge. The texture has a high degree of stoniness, which gives the soil good drainage and aeration and a high limestone content, giving the wines a marked olfactory finesse.

In this scenario, mountain viticulture gives these territories a strong identity that protects and safeguards their integrity, as well as their beauty, from forms of neglect and a state of abandon.

APPEARANCE
Straw-yellow with greenish reflections, very bright when young.
Golden yellow tending towards amber as ageing progresses.

AROMA
The aromas can vary greatly depending on the phase of the bottle’s refinement; in the earliest phase, they tend to converge into hints of sour or unripe fruit such as green apple, lime, lemon, and citrus fruits in general, as well as white flowers such as wisteria, jasmine and hawthorn (especially in cold years).

FLAVOUR
The most interesting part emerges in a more mature age: The main characteristic that makes it original and recognisable more when mature than when young is the aroma of hydrocarbons (i.e. oil, petrol, kerosene).
It reveals a significant degree of freshness and a decisive tanginess due to its territorial origin; as ageing progresses, there is a normal gradual decrease in the acidity perceived in the wine, which thus becomes increasingly more balanced and full-bodied.
